The announcement and acceptance ceremony for the Asian Record value recognition of Da Lat Artichoke will be held on May 20th in Ho Chi Minh City. This is an exciting event that will bring attention to one of the unique gifts of nature that Da Lat has to offer – the artichoke plant.

As VietKing’s evaluation suggests, Da Lat has been known as the “kingdom of a thousand flowers” for a long time. Among the many flowers that grow in the city, artichoke is one of the most characteristic ones. The artichoke is a temperate species that was brought to Da Lat by the French at the end of the 19th century. It showed signs of its potential for growth and has been cultivated in the city ever since. The artichoke plant has high economic value, and all its parts have value, from the flower, leaves, stem, roots… Artichokes, from fresh ingredients to finished products, have many health benefits. They have a liver-cooling, bile-clearing, diuretic effect and help lower cholesterol in the blood. Cynarine extract from artichokes also helps to quickly excrete alcohol.

The freshest artichokes are grown in Da Lat thanks to the soil and climate of the city. Currently, the area of artichoke cultivation in Da Lat is the largest in the country. Many farms in the city apply VietGAP and GACP processes to produce high-quality products without using fertilizers and chemicals, but instead using compost and spraying microbial agents. As a result, Da Lat artichokes have become increasingly popular and have become a famous specialty as well as a symbol of the city.

However, what makes Da Lat Artichoke truly special is that it has reached the Asian Record value. In early March 2023, the Vietnam Record Organization (VietKings) completed the nomination dossier sent to the Asian Record Organization for the recognition of the Record value for famous Vietnamese dishes / groups of dishes, including Da Lat Artichoke. Then, in early April 2023, the Asian Record Organization officially recognized Da Lat Artichoke as having reached the Asian Record value according to the Criteria Set by the Asian Record Organization. This recognition is a testament to the unique quality of Da Lat Artichoke and its importance to the region.
